Creative designers have no reason to fear an environment where success or failure comes down to numbers. That's a marketplace. And as far as I can tell Google is doing a damn fine job accelerating the results from the marketplace through systematic testing. This doesn't keep anybody from doing inspired design; it means you can see how wonderful it is a lot sooner.
